I used to love to dance and sing. I need to play more music. I do try to take extra steps. Our driveway slopes so I have to walk up and down a short hill to get the mail. I do walk to the other side of the yard to see a flower bloom. We don't have a dishwasher so I dry dishes by hand. When putting them away I sometimes do it one or two at a time which means extra walks back and forth. Also I value shade over distance so in the summertime I will park in the back of the store lot if there's a shade tree there. I just consider the extra steps good for me and I don't have to return to an oven disguise d as a car. I sometimes have lower back pain but instead of grabbing the aspirin first thing, I try to move around a bit first. I find that usually helps.
I whole heartedly agree with this article. My goal is 20 movement days a month. Movement might mean an hour of yin yoga with gentle stretches on the floor or an enthusiastic 4 mile walk in nature. It could mean walking through airports to go on vacation.
What’s important is that I move my body. The more I move, the better I feel, and the easier it is for me to move even more.
Such good suggestions. For me consistant adherence to movement/exercise was really thinking through what I want from it. Being older has taught me to take time to understand what I want and honor that. Younger me would’ve jumped into something without fully considering many more factors. Chief among those being what do I want vs what others told me I should want.
This time and inquiry lead me to an exercise and experience that is fun, social, fulfilling and honoring of my body and mind. 10 months later I’m fitter, stronger , and happier than I’ve been in years. And the great part of it is it seemed to just happen because I just kept showing up for the classes and for my whole self.
Love this approach that meets you where you’re at & forgives those times when it just doesn’t happen.
I’m currently dancing for exercise & I find that motivation isn’t hard.🥳
Such a positive approach!! ❤️
Meet yourself where you are without judgement! I love this!❤️

Really good and very doable advice

As a nearly 84 year old, who can still squat, never mind stand on my head, I agree strongly with this message. See https://arichardson.substack.com/p/just-keep-going-72d
